Steven Lopez

Steven Lopez is an accomplished Latin dance professional, choreographer, and the proud founder and director of Latin Elements Dance Company (LEDC), a premier competitive Latin dance company based in Norwalk, Connecticut. With over two decades of experience, Steven is known for his passionate commitment to the art of Latin dance, blending strong technical foundation with cultural authenticity.

His dance journey began at the age of eight through Latin folkloric movement—a moment that sparked a lifelong passion by connecting dance with culture. By twelve, he began formal Latin ballroom training under Juliette Tibodeaux at Fred Astaire Dance Studios, where he built a solid technical base in Salsa, Rumba, ChaChaCha, Bachata, and Latin Hustle. This ballroom training continues to shape the foundation of his technique and movement quality today.

Steven expanded his training with Yohanna Escamilla, immersing himself in Salsa Caleña, Cumbia, Flamenco, and Pasodoble, further deepening his connection to authentic Latin American movement traditions. He later trained, performed, and competed with the renowned Huracan Dance Company, where his transition into Salsa On2 was guided by his mentors, World ChaChaCha Champions Jeff Taveras and Julie Aponte—an experience that elevated his performance, musicality, and artistry.

As the director of LEDC, Steven leads with purpose, discipline, and creative vision—instilling confidence, expression, and cultural pride in his dancers. His choreography is known for its musicality, emotional depth, and technical precision, consistently earning recognition at local, regional, and national competitions.

Esteemed within the dance community, Steven continues to evolve his craft by attending workshops and masterclasses with internationally recognized dancers and choreographers. He remains dedicated to staying at the forefront of Latin dance while honoring its deep cultural roots.

With Costa Rican, Puerto Rican, and Spaniard heritage at the heart of his work, Steven Lopez sees dance not just as performance, but as powerful cultural expression. Through every class, routine, and performance, he empowers the next generation of dancers to move with pride, purpose, and authenticity.
